Update: Braunschweig Meat Processing in Neosho to Resume Operations
The Missouri Department of Agriculture's Meat and Poultry Inspection Program announced today that state inspection has resumed for custom processing at Braunschweig Meat Processing in Newton County. Retail sales of USDA-inspected meat at Braunschweig Meat Processing were not affected.
The business owners indicated that they made improvements to their well prior to requesting a follow up water analysis from their county health department. The sample, taken by the Newton County Health Department, indicated that violations identified last week within facility's water supply had been addressed. As a result, the processing permissions for the facility were reinstated.
The facility will continue to provide water samples for testing and to submit those results to the Missouri Department of Agriculture at least twice per year as required within the state inspection program.
Meat processed under a custom processing exemption, such as that produced by Braunschweig Meat Processing, is not allowed to be sold to the public. Custom exempt processing is completed for livestock owners for their own consumption. All custom exempt packaging is specially marked.
