The Missouri Department of Agriculture recently recognized National Enzyme Company of Forsyth, Mo. as the Agricultural Exporter of the Year. National Enzyme Company specializes in developing enzyme blends for human and animal consumption.
"National Enzyme Company is an outstanding example of the spirit of innovation and commitment that is essential to success in the international marketplace," said Director of Agriculture Dr. Jon Hagler. "We are proud to recognize the accomplishments of a Missouri company that makes such great contributions to their community, Missouri's economy and the agriculture industry."
National Enzyme Company is the oldest enzyme company in the U.S. and has grown from 3 employees to over 100 during their 75-year tenure. The company now has over 300 customers located in 42 countries and currently holds 80 percent of the global natural enzyme market.
During their 30-year tenure in Missouri, National Enzyme Company has become the largest private employer in Taney County and established community service programs, including a partnership with their local food bank and educational programs for healthy lifestyles.
Director Hagler was joined for the announcement on the Missouri State University campus by Missouri State University Provost Dr. Belinda McCarthy, Missouri State University Professor of Agriculture and Department Head Dr. Anson Elliott and Missouri State University Small Business & Technology Development Center Training Coordinator Tara Horton in presenting the award to National Enzyme Company Chief Operating Officer Charles Amidon.
Earlier this year, Governor Nixon announced that Missouri exports increased approximately 35 percent, totaling $12.9 billion last year. The Department continues to work with business owners looking to expand their operations into the international marketplace.
Missouri began recognizing business' international efforts with the Missouri Agricultural Exporter of the Year award in 1991. Previous recipients have included Farmland Industries of Kansas City, Neco Seeds of Garden City, Mid America Dairymen of Springfield and Purina Mills Incorporated of St. Louis.
Recipients of the award are selected by the Missouri Department of Agriculture, with assistance from the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce Foreign and Commercial Services' Export Assistance Center and the Missouri Department of Economic Development International Trade Program.
