Missouri State Fair Receives International Recognition, Awards for Excellence

Missouri's state fair, an event held each August in Sedalia, Mo., has been recognized as one of the best in the world by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE), Gov. Jay Nixon and Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe announced today.

"It is outstanding to see Missouri's premiere agricultural showcase recognized on an international scale," said Gov. Nixon. "Agriculture is the backbone of Missouri's economy, and I congratulate the individuals whose hard work and dedication make the Missouri State Fair possible each year."

During the recent IAFE convention, the Missouri State Fair was recognized for excellence in competitive events, agricultural events and exhibitions and communications efforts. Among the more than 20 honors received, the Missouri State Fair was recognized for Excellence in Competitive Exhibits. The Fair's awards also included first place recognition for the Military Appreciation Day event, which hosted thousands of Missourians paying tribute to active duty service men and women and veterans, as well as top recognition for youth involvement in livestock care and exhibition.

"These honors acknowledge the concerted efforts made by the Missouri State Fair to showcase Missouri agriculture and affirm that our celebration of Missouri agriculture is among the best in the U.S. as well as internationally," Wolfe said.

The Missouri State Fair is one of IAFE's more than 3,000 domestic and international members. The association is based in Springfield, Mo. and the annual conference and tradeshow is one of the largest events serving fairs, shows, festivals and exhibitions throughout the world. The Missouri State Fair vied for awards with U.S. and international fairs and festivals with similar attendance between 250,001 and 500,000.

The 2012 Missouri State Fair will be held in August 9-19 in Sedalia. For more information about the Fair, and the full list of awards, visit mostatefair.com.
