Missouri State Fair Wins Top Honors for its Agriculture Showcase

The Missouri State Fair has been recognized as one of the premiere agricultural showcases in the world by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE). During the recent IAFE convention, Missouri's state fair received more than 30 awards.

"It is very rewarding to be recognized on an international scale," said Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe. "The commission and staff are committed to preserving an event that perpetuates the state's leading industry, but more importantly, we are committed to fostering success among Missouri's outstanding youth. This recognition is an acknowledgment of the concerted efforts to showcase Missouri agriculture and affirm that our celebration of Missouri agriculture is among the best in the U.S. as well as internationally."

The Missouri State Fair was recognized for its competitive exhibits and agricultural education, and communications and sponsorship efforts. Among the more than 30 honors, the Fair received Awards of Distinction in the Competitive Exhibits competition and the new Innovations in Sponsorship competition. Both categories recognized only one fair in each of the five divisions.

"It is outstanding to see the Missouri State Fair once again recognized for excellence on an international scale," said Director of Agriculture Dr. Jon Hagler. "The Fair is our premier agricultural showcase and would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of many Missourians. Thank you to Governor Nixon, the Missouri State Fair Commission, Foundation and all of our exhibitors and attendees for your continued support and helping to keep our Missouri State Fair among the best."

The Missouri State Fair is one of IAFE's more than 1,200 domestic and international members. The association is based in Springfield, Mo. and the annual conference and tradeshow is one of the largest events serving fairs, shows, festivals and exhibitions throughout the world. The Missouri State Fair vied for awards with U.S. and international fairs and festivals with similar attendance between 250,001 and 500,000.

The 2013 Missouri State Fair will be held August 8-18 in Sedalia. For more information about the Fair, and to view the full list of awards, visit www.mostatefair.com.
