Governor Mike Kehoe Proclaims May as Beef Month
Missouri Beef Industry Council, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and local beef producers joined the Governor during a ceremony at the Missouri Capitol.
Today, on behalf of cattlemen and cattlewomen throughout the state, Governor Mike Kehoe proclaimed May as Beef Month in Missouri. Governor Kehoe presented the proclamation to members of the Missouri Beef Industry Council (MBIC), Missouri Cattlemen’s Association (MCA) and local beef producers during a ceremony at the Missouri Capitol.
“As a first-generation beef producer, I am proud to recognize May as Beef Month,” said Governor Kehoe. “Claudia and I stand alongside thousands of beef producers across Missouri who work hard each day to raise a high-quality protein. We applaud Missouri cattlemen and women for their dedication to the industry and feeding the world.”
Beef production is a driving force in the state’s agriculture economy, producing nearly $2 billion in sales and supporting more than 40,000 jobs.
“Beef production is a large part of the $93.7 billion Missouri agriculture industry and is worthy of celebration throughout the month of May and all year,” said Director of Agriculture Chris Chinn. “Missouri cattle ranchers produce delicious, high-quality products desired by consumers across the state, the nation and the entire world.”
“Beef Month is our opportunity to recognize our state’s beef farm and ranch families – not only for producing high-quality, nutritious beef – but for doing so with integrity, stewardship and a commitment to excellence,” said MBIC Board Chair Tracey Mershon. “The demand for beef remains strong and so does our responsibility to deliver a product that meets consumer expectations – delicious, wholesome and raised with care.”
Missouri ranks third nationally in the number of beef cows with nearly two million head and is consistently among the leading states for total cattle production. The meat processing industry contributes nearly $6 million to the state’s economy, according to a study showing the economic contribution of Missouri agriculture.
“We will never stop listening to our customers,” said MCA President Jeff Reed. “Today, as we join others in the industry, Governor Kehoe and Director Chinn in proclaiming May as Beef Month, let this also serve as a thank you to the consumers who trust me and my fellow cattlemen to raise a wholesome product for their family.”
